Weekly update 5-30-09

Posted in

Greetings, all. This update puts us back on schedule. Most activity occurred the week of the Dayton Hamvention, with nets on May 13 and 15. Fortunately, the county again skirted serious damage, but other nearby counties were not as fortunate. Please remember that it CAN HAPPEN HERE! On a national level, there is some serious saber-rattling going on with the very unstable "government" of North Korea. Remember that they are closely tied to China, and that raises the ante. These can be uncertain times, so let's all keep our equipment in good operating order and keep ourselves ready to help in time of need.
A good way to get in some practice is to come out to Field Day in Hendricks County, June 27 and 28 at the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds. The Field Day site is immediately south of the grandstands at the dirt track oval. That entrance is off of CR 200E approximately 3/8 mile north of Old US 36. We can always use help with set-up on Saturday morning at 8:00 am and for tear-down on Sunday after the close of operations, around 1:00 or 2:00 pm, and we need operators to man the radios for the 24 hours of operation, CW is a plus! (Better bring your own key.) Come on out and get in some practice on setting up emergency operations, putting up shelters, erecting antennas, stringing coax, and operating away from the comforts of home. It's a lot of work and fun, but if we have a big emergency, we will probably be using a similar set-up.
And finally, the first piece of the new equipment purchase has arrived at the Government Center late this week. We will keep you advised as it continues to come in.
Have a good week and stay ready.
